Insulating glass units. Specifications
Full title and description
GOST 24866-2014 — "Стеклопакеты клееные. Технические условия" (English: Insulating glass units. Specifications). The standard sets technical requirements, classification, basic parameters and acceptance rules for glued insulating glass units intended for use in windows, doors, partitions, skylights, glass roofs, façade systems and similar applications.
Abstract
This interstate/national standard specifies terminology, classification, dimensional parameters, material and adhesive requirements, manufacturing and acceptance criteria, marking, packaging and safety provisions for glued insulating glass units (IGUs). It is intended for use in production, conformity assessment and testing of glued IGUs and harmonizes key provisions with relevant European standards.
General information
- Status: Effective / in force (replaced GOST 24866-99).
- Publication date: Registered 20 October 2014; published/issued 2015; introduced (effective) 1 April 2016.
- Publisher: Interstate standard (EASC); introduced as a national standard of the Russian Federation by the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (Rosstandart).
- ICS / categories: 81.040.30 (Glass and glass products; glass industry).
- Edition / version: GOST 24866-2014 (with Amendment No.1 and later corrigenda).
- Number of pages: Approximately 33 pages (standard text with annexes/changes included in published copies).
Scope
The standard covers glued (adhesive-bonded) insulating glass units intended for the glazing of translucent constructions in buildings and other structures. It does not apply to insulating units that use polymer films in the inter-pane space (special polymer films used to form closed air/gas chambers). The standard may be applied for certification testing and conformity assessment of glued IGUs.
Key topics and requirements
- Terms and definitions specific to glued insulating glass units.
- Classification and main parameters (unit types, number of chambers, total thickness ranges and spacer widths).
- Dimensional tolerances and acceptable deviations for thickness and spacer dimensions (typical standard values given as guidance).
- Materials and components requirements, including glass types, spacers, seals and adhesives suitable for glued IGUs.
- Manufacturing and assembly requirements intended to ensure durability, hermeticity and safety of glued units.
- Testing and acceptance criteria (mechanical, thermal and durability considerations), marking, packing, transportation and storage rules.
- Safety and occupational requirements for production and testing.
Typical use and users
Manufacturers of insulating glass units (IGU producers), window and façade system fabricators, architects and façade engineers, testing and certification laboratories, building regulatory authorities and quality assurance professionals use this standard to specify, produce, test and verify glued IGUs for building applications.
Related standards
The standard references and aligns with multiple related documents and international/EU standards, including parts of the EN 1279 series and several GOST/GOST‑R standards (for test methods, visual defects, marking, packaging, laminated and tempered glass specifications, acoustic and thermal test methods, and quality assurance rules). Examples include GOST R ISO 10140 (acoustic), GOST EN 410 (glass optical properties), GOST 30733-2014 (laminated glass) and GOST 32998.6-2014 (IGU quality assurance).

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: GOST 24866-2014 is the interstate/national standard that defines technical conditions and specifications for glued (adhesively bonded) insulating glass units used in building glazing applications.
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers terminology, classification, required parameters and tolerances, materials (including adhesive systems), manufacturing and acceptance requirements, marking, packaging, storage and safety provisions for glued IGUs; it excludes IGUs that contain polymer films in the cavity.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: IGU manufacturers, window and façade fabricators, architects and engineers, testing and certification labs, and regulatory/quality bodies involved in building glazing and façade systems.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: GOST 24866-2014 is currently in force (effective). It superseded GOST 24866-99; amendments and corrections have been published (Amendment No.1 and later corrigenda) and are applied to the base text.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: The standard is part of the family of glass and glazing standards and is linked by normative references to other GOST/GOST‑R and European standards covering test methods, visual defects, laminated/tempered glass, quality assurance and related topics (for example, EN 1279 series and several GOST documents addressing glass products and test methods).
Q: What are the key keywords?
A: Insulating glass units, glued IGU, glazing, spacer, hermeticity, adhesives, thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, marking, testing, certification.
