Industrial furnaces and chimneys
Full title and description
SN RK 5.02-01-2014 — Industrial furnaces and chimneys. National construction norm of the Republic of Kazakhstan establishing requirements for the design, construction, installation, operation and inspection of industrial furnaces, flues and chimneys used in industrial facilities.
Abstract
This document sets out functional and technical requirements for industrial furnaces and chimneys, covering terminology, purpose, material and structural requirements, fire- and thermal-safety provisions, basic rules for refractory linings and insulation, provisions for foundations and supports, and requirements for access, inspection and maintenance to ensure safe, durable and serviceable operation of furnace and chimney installations within industrial buildings and sites.
General information

Scope
Applies to the design, construction, reconstruction, installation, commissioning, inspection and safe operation of industrial furnaces and chimneys (including their refractory linings, insulation, supports, access arrangements and associated foundations) used at industrial and process facilities. The document provides normative requirements and references to normative materials and guidance necessary to ensure structural integrity, thermal performance and safety during service life.
Key topics and requirements
- Definitions, terms and classification of furnace and chimney types.
- Functional and performance requirements: thermal loads, operational temperatures and lifetime expectations.
- Structural design rules addressing thermal stresses, wind, seismic and self-weight effects on chimneys and furnace structures.
- Materials and refractory lining requirements, selection criteria and testing considerations.
- Foundations, supports and connections between furnace, chimney and building structures.
- Access, inspection, maintenance and safety provisions (platforms, ladders, manholes, monitoring points).
- Acceptance testing, commissioning and documentation required for handover and operation.
Typical use and users
Used by structural and process engineers, furnace designers, plant architects, construction contractors, inspection authorities, regulatory bodies and facility operators involved in the design, construction, commissioning, inspection and maintenance of industrial furnaces and chimneys at metallurgical, chemical, cement, power and other process plants.
Related standards
Part of the СН РК (Construction Norms of the Republic of Kazakhstan) family. Commonly used alongside related design guidelines and SP RK documents (for example SP RK 5.02-101-2014 — complementary guidance on industrial furnaces and chimneys) and other СН РК/SP RK documents addressing foundations, thermal insulation, structural loading and seismic requirements adopted in the 2014 construction normative package.

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: SN RK 5.02-01-2014 is a national construction norm of the Republic of Kazakhstan that specifies requirements for industrial furnaces and chimneys — covering their design, construction, installation and inspection.
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers terminology, functional requirements, structural and material provisions (including refractory linings), foundations and supports, safety/access, inspection and commissioning requirements for industrial furnaces and chimneys used in industrial facilities.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Structural and process engineers, furnace and chimney designers, construction contractors, inspection bodies, plant operators and regulators involved in industrial plant design, construction and maintenance.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: As published in 2014 and introduced into effect 1 July 2015, it is listed as an active construction norm in Kazakhstan’s 2014 normative package; users should verify whether any later amendments or superseding documents have been issued when applying it to new projects.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: Yes — it forms part of the СН РК series (Construction Norms of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and is used together with related SP RK guidance documents and other СН РК items that together make up the 2014 construction normative base adopted by the national committee.
Q: What are the key keywords?
