Full title and description
St ISO 11007-1-2021 Amd 1-2023 — Petroleum products and lubricants — Determination of rust-prevention characteristics of lubricating greases — Part 1: Dynamic wet conditions — Amendment 1: Test bearings. This amendment provides a short technical change to ISO 11007-1:2021 to specify test-bearing details used in the dynamic wet corrosion test for greases.
Abstract
This document is Amendment 1 (2023) to ISO 11007-1:2021. ISO 11007-1:2021 defines a laboratory method to assess the rust-prevention performance of lubricating greases under dynamic wet conditions (rolling bearings exposed to water or aqueous pollutants). Amendment 1 adds and/or clarifies requirements for the test bearings used in the method to improve repeatability and reproducibility of results.

Scope
This amendment applies to ISO 11007-1:2021 and specifies test-bearing requirements and related clarifications for the dynamic wet conditions test for lubricating greases. The overall scope of Part 1 remains the laboratory determination of a grease's ability to prevent corrosion in rolling bearings operated in the presence of water, synthetic sea water or other aqueous pollutants; the amendment ensures consistent bearing selection, preparation and identification so test outcomes are comparable between laboratories.
Key topics and requirements
- Specification of test-bearing type(s) and dimensions to be used for the dynamic wet test.
- Requirements for bearing cleaning, inspection and preparation prior to filling with grease.
- Clarifications on grease filling quantity and bearing assembly related to the test rig.
- Conditions for test fluids (water, synthetic sea water or defined aqueous pollutants) remain as in the base standard.
- Instructions to improve repeatability and inter-laboratory reproducibility by standardizing bearing-related variables.
- Reporting requirements to include bearing identification and any deviations from specified bearing preparation procedures.
Typical use and users
Used by industrial and independent lubricant test laboratories, grease manufacturers, OEMs (bearing and rotating-equipment manufacturers), quality and compliance teams, research and development groups and standards committees. The amendment is applied when performing ISO 11007-1 dynamic wet corrosion testing to ensure consistent test setup and comparable corrosion-rating results.

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: It is Amendment 1 (2023) to ISO 11007-1:2021, providing additional specification and clarification about the test bearings used in the dynamic wet corrosion test for lubricating greases.
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers the selection, preparation and identification requirements for test bearings used when performing the ISO 11007-1 dynamic wet rust-prevention test, supplementing the procedures already defined in the 2021 base document.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Lubricant test laboratories, grease manufacturers, OEMs, R&D and quality assurance teams, and conformity assessment bodies performing or evaluating grease rust-prevention testing under ISO 11007-1.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: The amendment (published May 2023) is current as an update to ISO 11007-1:2021. The 1997 edition of ISO 11007 has been withdrawn and replaced by the 2021/2023 documents.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: Yes — it is Part 1 of the ISO 11007 series (dynamic wet conditions). The series also includes Part 2 (ISO/TS 11007-2) covering water wash-out conditions; the amendment updates Part 1 only.
Q: What are the key keywords?
A: Rust-prevention, lubricating grease, corrosion testing, dynamic wet conditions, test bearings, lubricant performance, bearing corrosion.
