Full title and description

Petroleum and natural gas industries — Corrosion resistant alloy clad bends and fittings for pipeline transportation system — Part 2: Clad fittings. This International Standard specifies technical delivery conditions for factory-made, seamless and welded corrosion resistant alloy (CRA) clad fittings (elbows, reducers, tees and caps) used in pipeline transportation systems for the petroleum and natural gas industries.

Abstract

This document defines requirements for design, geometric dimensions, materials, manufacturing procedures, inspection methods, non-destructive testing (NDT), marking, packaging and storage of CRA clad fittings for pipelines transporting corrosive single‑phase or multi‑phase fluids (e.g., oil, gas, water). Two delivery-condition classes are defined: Class B (standard quality) and Class S (sour-service/heightened requirements). Fabricated laterals and fittings with circumferential/intersection welds are excluded.

General information

  • Status: Published.
  • Publication date: 24 February 2023.
  • Publisher: International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
  • ICS / categories: 75.200 (Petroleum products and natural gas handling equipment).
  • Edition / version: Edition 1 (2023-02).
  • Number of pages: 48.

Key bibliographic and lifecycle metadata (status, edition, ICS and page count) are published by ISO.

Scope

Applies to factory-made, seamless and welded CRA clad fittings—including clad elbows, reducers, tees and caps—intended for use in transportation or process pipelines that convey corrosive media (single- or multi-phase fluids such as oil, gas and water) in petroleum and natural gas industries. The standard sets delivery conditions but excludes fabricated laterals, lap-joint stub ends and other fittings treated as pipe fabrication (circumferential/intersection welded assemblies).

Key topics and requirements

  • Design and geometric dimensions for clad fittings (type-specific dimensional requirements).
  • Materials: requirements for substrate and corrosion resistant alloy cladding materials and acceptance criteria.
  • Manufacturing procedures for seamless and welded clad fittings, including cladding application and bonding integrity.
  • Inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) requirements to verify cladding, welds and overall integrity.
  • Marking, traceability, packaging and storage provisions to protect clad surfaces and preserve condition during transport/storage.
  • Two delivery-condition classes (Class B — standard quality; Class S — sour-service / enhanced technical requirements).
  • Exclusions and boundary conditions (fabricated laterals and fittings with circumferential/intersection welds are out of scope).

Typical use and users

Used by pipeline and subsea design engineers, fitting manufacturers, quality and inspection personnel, procurement and specification writers, operators of oil & gas pipeline systems, and third-party inspectors. The document is referenced during purchase specifications, manufacturing control, inspection planning, acceptance testing and supplier qualification for CRA clad fittings.

Related standards

Directly related to ISO 24139-1 (Part 1: Clad bends) which covers CRA clad bends and shares delivery-condition class concepts. It is intended to be used in conjunction with pipeline systems guidance such as ISO 13623 (Pipeline transportation systems). The standard was developed within ISO/TC 67/SC 2 (Pipeline transportation systems).

FAQ

Q: What is this standard?

A: ISO 24139-2:2023 is an International Standard that specifies technical delivery conditions for corrosion resistant alloy clad fittings used in pipeline transportation systems for the petroleum and natural gas industries.

Q: What does it cover?

A: It covers design, dimensions, materials, manufacturing procedures, inspection and NDT, marking, packaging and storage for factory-made seamless and welded CRA clad fittings (elbows, reducers, tees, caps). It also defines two delivery-condition classes (B and S) and lists exclusions such as fabricated laterals.

Q: Who typically uses it?

A: Pipeline designers and engineers, fitting manufacturers, quality assurance and inspection teams, procurement/specification writers, pipeline operators and third-party inspectors use this standard when specifying, producing, inspecting and accepting CRA clad fittings.

Q: Is it current or superseded?

A: ISO 24139-2:2023 is a current (published) International Standard (edition 1, published 24 February 2023). Users should always confirm if a newer revision or amendment exists before relying on the standard for procurement or certification activities.

Q: Is it part of a series?

A: Yes — it is Part 2 of the ISO 24139 series; Part 1 (ISO 24139-1:2022) covers clad bends. The series is developed by ISO/TC 67/SC 2 and is intended to be used alongside broader pipeline standards such as ISO 13623.

Q: What are the key keywords?

A: Key keywords include CRA, clad fittings, clad elbows, reducers, tees, caps, pipeline transportation, sour-service, NDT, manufacturing, delivery conditions, ISO 24139-2.
