Full title and description
GOST R 56404-2015 — "Бережливое производство. Требования к системам менеджмента" (Lean production. Requirements for management systems). National Russian standard that defines requirements for management systems implementing lean production (principles such as value, value stream, flow, pull and continuous improvement) applicable to organizations of any type and size.
Abstract
GOST R 56404-2015 sets out the structure and mandatory requirements for a Lean Production Management System (LPMS). It covers organizational context, leadership, planning, resources, operational control, performance evaluation and continual improvement with the aim of increasing value for customers and other interested parties while eliminating losses. The standard was introduced in 2015 and later replaced by an updated 2021 edition.

Scope
The standard establishes requirements for a Lean Production Management System (LPMS) where an organization aims to improve satisfaction of customers, shareholders, employees and other interested parties by effectively applying lean principles; and where the organization needs to demonstrate the level and dynamics of improvement in value creation. Requirements are general and intended for application by organizations regardless of their type, size or the products and services supplied.
Key topics and requirements
- Principles of lean production: value definition, value stream mapping, flow, pull (вытягивание) and continuous improvement (kaizen).
- Organizational context and leadership responsibilities for creating a culture that supports lean (including social‑psychological environment and respect for people).
- Planning, objectives and performance indicators tied to value creation (takt time, cycle time, flow efficiency and other flow metrics).
- Resources, competence, knowledge management and infrastructure needed to monitor and measure processes and value streams.
- Operational controls including design/development, process design as value streams, supplier management synchronized with value flow.
- Monitoring, measurement, analysis, evaluation and continual improvement of the LPMS.
- Documentation and records to demonstrate competence, results and improvement activities.
Typical use and users
Used by organizations seeking to implement or formalize lean production at enterprise level: manufacturing (automotive, heavy industry, metallurgy, shipbuilding), suppliers, product development and service organizations. Typical users include senior leadership, quality and operations managers, lean practitioners, auditors and consultants who need a national normative reference for lean management system requirements.
Related standards
Frequently used together with other management system standards and normative documents such as ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) and related Russian GOST R documents on lean methods and metrics (subsequent and companion standards referenced in the LPMS text). The 2015 text was explicitly superseded by the 2021 revision (ГОСТ Р 56404-2021).
